Different Mode Delay
When a single mode fibre optic signal is sent into multimode cable, due to the index of refraction anomalies along the centerline of the multimode fiber core, the highly concentrated single mode fibre light modes that propagate through the index of refraction anomalies spread out in time cause modal dispersion, this effect is called differential mode delay. Different mode delay will affect the performance of the network and reduce the bandwidth.
Mode Conditioning Fibre Cable
Mode conditioning cable assemblies are mainly used in Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-LX) applications where there is requirement for interconnection of both single mode fibre channels and multimode fibre channels. It can prevent the different mode delay caused by the action of sending single mode fibre optic light into multimode cables.
