GBIC Fibre optic transceiver
Gigabit Interface Converter is a low cost solution for interconnection between the switches and other equipment other high performance, or for point-to-point communication requiring gigabit or fiber channel interconnections. GBIC transceiver is hot plug gable, which allows a suitably designed enclosure to be changed from one type of external interface to another simply by plugging in a GBIC having the alternative external interface.
SFP is a small type GBIC module, function of SFP is almost same as GBIC, but its size is only half of GBIC. SFP is usually with dual LC interface; SFP fibre optic transceiver can be regarded as an upgraded version of GBIC. XFP refer to 10G SFP.
